How to Move to Another PC

In this FAQ, the term "Software" will refer to the Monthly Income & Expense Tracker, "Old PC" will refer to the PC which the Software currently resides, and "New PC" will refer to the PC where it is to be moved.

Starting with version 3.20, the Software has a built-in backup and restore feature. Please use this feature and not the old "ALMSys, Inc. Backup" program.

If desired, ALMSys, Inc. will create a new installation for the new PC with your data. Simply send a backup to Support and explain what you wish to have done.
  1. On the Old PC, make sure you have upgraded to the latest version of the Software.
  2. On the Old PC, run the Monthly Income & Expense Tracker program and back up your data to a location that the new PC will be able to see.
  3. On the New PC, download and install a new copy of the Software. This is available by clicking here.
  4. On the New PC, run the Software and restore the data from the backup you took earlier.
  5. On the New PC, register the Software by selecting "Register Now" from the pull-down menu. If you have already paid for the version you are using, you may simply provide false information on the "Credit Card" page (use the "Dummy Fields" button). However, on subsequent pages, please provide accurate name and address data. All orders are manually processed to ensure accuracy.
