Monthly Income & Expense Tracker


Version 3.1 Upgrade Instructions

This update will work on any version of the Monthly Income & Expense Tracker.
  1. Exit the Monthly Income & Expense Tracker program if it is running.
  2. Windows Vista Users Only. Windows Vista users need to copy the "real" Monthly Income & Expense Tracker files from the "compatibility files" folder to the Monthly Income & Expense Tracker folder. This is done as follows:
    1. Click the Start picture.
    2. Select "Computer" from the menu.
    3. Double click on the C: drive on the right part of the screen.
    4. Double click on the "Program Files" folder.
    5. Double Click on the "Monthly Income & Expense Tracker" folder.
    6. You should see "Compatibility Files" in the heading at the top. Single click on that.
    7. The contents will change to display the "real" Monthly Income & Expense Tracker files. These files need to be copied back to the Monthly Income & Expense Tracker folder or the upgrade will not convert your data properly. Click on the very first file listed. Then, hold the shift key down and click on the last file listed. This should highlight all files. Choose "Edit" and then "Copy" from the pull-down menu at the top of the screen.
    8. Open up another computer session by clicking the Start picture and then selecting "Computer".
    9. Navigate to the "Monthly Income & Expense Tracker" folder again by double clicking the C: drive, then double clicking the "Program Files" folder, and finally double clicking the "Monthly Income & Expense Tracker" folder.
    10. Choose "Edit" and then "Paste" from the pull-down menu at the top. Allow all files to be overwritten.
    11. Close the two "Computer" sessions. The files are now ready to be converted.
  3. To be safe, please exit the Monthly Income & Expense Tracker program and back up your data. A free program is available for backing up the Tracker's data. To obtain this program, click here.
  4. The update that you need to run is based on the version of the Monthly Income & Expense Tracker program you are currently running. If you do not know, run the software and click "Help - About." That will give you the current version number. Based on the version, download and run ONE of the following:
  5. To accept the default installation directory, press the No Questions Asked Installation button. (The installation program will remember where you installed prior versions. If you are nervous about this, press the Advanced Option Installation button and go from there.)
  6. After the programs are updated, a file conversion program will run. Follow the onscreen instructions.
That will take you to version 3.1. A list of changes may be found within the Monthly Income & Expense Tracker help and on the history page.

Version 3.1 Registration Instructions

If you upgraded from a registered version of 2.3 or older, then you are already registered and should not need to do anything else.

Upgrading from versions earlier than 2.3 will place the software into an unregistered state. You will still have full access to your data. You must register version 3.1. To do this, carefully follow these instructions:
  1. Run the Monthly Income & Expense Tracker.
  2. Click Register Now.
  3. Read the information on the Start page and click Next.
  4. If you are taken to the Credit Card page:
    1. If you are a registered 2.x user, press the "Dummy Fields" button in order to provide false information on this page. Your update is free.
    2. All other users must provide valid credit card information. The upgrade will cost $10.00 for 1.x users.
    3. Press Next.
  5. If you are taken to the Billing page:
    1. If you are a registered 2.x user, type in valid registration information on this page.
    2. All other users must provide valid credit card billing address information.
    3. Press Next.
  6. Type in valid registration information on the Registration page.
  7. Press Next.
  8. Type in your current e-mail address.
  9. Select how you want to register. Registration is a two-part process. Transmitting or faxing your registration information completes Part 1.
  10. Read the Finish screen. It is recommended to print an order receipt.
  11. Click Close

When a valid order has been processed, you will receive an e-mail with registration completion instructions.
